Young people in Cameroon are Football Crazy. In every school playground, in every small village, in every town there is a football pitch of some kind on which kids and young people play The Beautiful Game. Thery copy and aspire to be like their heroes on the National Football Team who stunned worldwide audiences with their skill and style when they broke onto the World Cup stage. The "Lions" continue to reign as the soccer kings of Africa winning the African Nations Cup at the start of the new millennium.

Cameroonian's enthusiasm for football is an indication of the incredible joy and life that they bring to any type of

celebration. The country has often been called "Africa in miniature" because of its great mix of people and culture. Fr. Victor Dunne from Co. Westmeath is an enthusiastic football fan and is involved with local football teams in the area where he works. This provides an opportunity for him to get to know the young people in his community.

These same young people are also very enthusiastic about the future of their country and are anxious to contribute to its political, social and economic well being. At the heart of this enthusiasm is their eperience of being a Christian community that cares for and supports each other.
