Donal Dorr has good news for those seeking meaning and purpose for their lives - divine energy is all around us. We have only to discover how to access it to become sharers in God's own life.
In the tradition of Teithard de Chardin, Dorr examines divine energy from three perspectives: "beyond us," "within us," and "among us." He reveals a vision of God as close to us as the air we breathe and the food we eat.
God beyond us. In the first section we see the divine presence in nature and in such human experiences as being healed, falling in love, being around a child, and engaging in the struggle for human liberation.
God within us. Dorr then depicts the divine within us as the prophetic spirit who touches the human spirit, bringing inspiration and commitment as well as hope, joy, peace, and life energy. He examines movements of the Spirit in different cultures, such as religious symbols, inspiration, dreams, and the energies of nature and the cosmos.
God among us. In the final section, the author explores how in the person of Jesus we learn what it means to be authentically human. Dorr offers a fresh view of redemption and resurrection as a transformation of spiritual energy, first in Christ and now in us.
The book concludes with a contemporary "creed" that weaves Dorr's three powerful themes in soaring language of devotion and praise.
