Cook/Kitchen Assistant – Specified Purpose Contract (30 hours per week)​

Located in the beautiful countryside of Kiltegan, St Patrick’s Missionary Society have a residential facility for retired members. It offers a friendly and relaxed environment for its members and staff, all of whom are highly valued.

 

We have the following staffing requirements whose responsibilities will include:

• Preparing, cooking, presenting, and serving the range of meals served to our society members;

• Giving instruction and guidance to any kitchen assistants working with you;

• Helping the Catering Manager and catering team with daily running of the kitchen;

• Ensuring you and your team have high standards of food hygiene and follow health and safety rules;

• Following HACCP guidelines and keeping records accordingly;

• Monitoring portion control and waste control to keep running costs at budgeted level;

• Cleaning of kitchen work areas, surfaces (including walls) and equipment as required daily and deep cleaning according to cleaning schedule;

• Attending to wash up, and laundry as required;

• Cleaning and stock rotation in cold room, walk in freezer and store rooms;

• Assist the Catering Manager in the placing of stock orders when required.

Dining room duties:

• Clearing of all tables after meals, changing tablecloths if necessary and resetting for next meal;

• Packing dishwasher and drying up after each cycle

• Brushing and mopping floors and cleaning down serving areas and washing up areas;

• Maintaining a high standard of hygiene;

• Emptying swill bins etc. and disinfecting after;

 

Competencies Required

​

• Proven experience as a cook, ideally in a similar environment.

• Will have a good knowledge of HACCP guidelines

• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

• Demonstrates attention to detail and a good knowledge of food preparation.

• Ability to demonstrate a flair and passion for cooking good food.
