From Lodwar to Coventry…

Twenty-one years ago, Africa Magazine featured the Stations of Cross from Lodwar Cathedral, Kenya, in the April 2000 issue. The Stations were commissioned by St Patrick’s Missionaries working in the area in the late 1990s for the cathedral. An American Notre Dame Sister, Sr Janet Mullin and a team of young Kenyan art students agreed to help. The Stations were to reflect the life and environment of the Turkana people with faces, dress and places being authentically Turkana. The result was a beautiful set of Stations. The reaction of the local people at the time was excellent and these Stations continue to bring joy to the people and clergy of Lodwar. This year Coventry Cathedral in England is featuring the Stations in a beautiful display from March 18th and in their online Stations of the Cross on Good Friday (April 2nd). The people of Lodwar and Coventry are now connected during this holy season of Lent.
