We celebrate St Brigid’s day tomorrow, Monday, February 1st. Our good friend Sr Eileen Deegan, a Brigidine Sister, sent us this lovely message for St Brigid’s Day. She weaves a St Brigid’s Cross as she tells us about St Brigid and the traditions that are associated with the cross. St Brigid was a lady of faith, peace and hope. She was famous for her love of nature and protection of animals. Traditionally her cross was used as a blessing for sick people and sick animals and for new born babies. Hospitality was a special virtue of hers, giving shelter to the homeless and those in need. Eileen invites us to continue these traditions today.
Unfortunately, the recording cut off before the end. But Sr Eileen sent us the prayer that she said for everyone watching today.
Prayer for St Brigid’s Day, February 1st
May Brigid bless the house where in you dwell
Bless every fireside, every wall and floor
Bless every heart that beats beneath its roof
Bless every tongue and mind forevermore.
This is my wish today, my constant prayer.
May Brigid bless the house that shelters you.
